I first came to yoga as a new mum, seeking a body, mind and spiritual experience that would allow me to connect with myself, move my tired body and allow me time to deeply relax. My passion for yoga grew steadily throughout and following the birth of my second son. I practiced pregnancy yoga, hot yoga and hatha yoga whilst studying, and working in the early childhood sector and raising my family and found it kept me balanced and calm. My love for yoga really began when my family moved out to Samford valley in 2013 and I walked into Zen Space yoga studio and was greeted by my now close friend Kate Barzdo, who so lovingly and thoughtfully guided me towards gentle yoga, mantra (sacred yogic chanting) and meditation. So, I went back, tried lots of classes and was a regular at the studio for a year before I went on my first retreat.
Whilst on my first yoga retreat at Chenrezig Institute Eudlo, back in 2014 I had a vision of becoming a kid’s yoga teacher. This led me to study kids yoga teacher training as well as my first adult 350hr Level 1 Yoga teacher training in 2015. Since completing these initial courses I have gone on to do many more and absolutely love teaching and learning all about yoga and the life changing effects it can have on children and adults.
I have grown a successful business Blue Lotus Kids Yoga and in late 2018 felt ready to offer classes for women and thus the intention to rebrand my business Kathryn Avery Yoga arose. I feel it is more of a total reflection of my whole self and I am ready to step into that identity more.
My life now is wholeheartedly one that is filled to the brim with yoga, not simply as a teacher but as a women, mother, wife and business owner. I have benefited greatly from daily practices of yoga and meditation which has helped me to manage depression and anxiety. The real work, however, is away from the mat and out in the real world where life can get messy and feel difficult at times. It is through applying yogic philosophy and practices for living that I have deepened the connection with my inner self, handled difficult life experiences and now view the world with more compassion, positivity and peace.
It is a driving passion to pass on my knowledge and experience to children, teens and adults so that they too grow to understand and love themselves, their minds and bodies deeply. Yoga has truly enriched my life deeply. I know that there is such a magic that occurs when you connect with yourself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
